Cupcake Recipe
Step 1: Warm the Milk
Warm up 3/4 cup of milk until it's just slightly warm to the touch.
Step 2: Prepare Yeast Mixture
Add 1 tablespoon of sugar and 1 packet of active dry yeast to the warm milk. Mix well and let it sit for 10 minutes.
Step 3: Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, combine 4.5 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1/2 cup of sugar. Mix thoroughly.
Step 4: Combine Mixtures
After 10 minutes, add the yeast mixture to the dry ingredients along with 3 whole eggs, a splash of vanilla extract, and 1/2 cup of melted or room temperature unsalted butter. Mix until combined.
Step 5: Adjust Dough Consistency
If the dough is not lightly sticky, add a little more room temperature unsalted butter. The dough should be extremely soft.
Step 6: Let Dough Rise
Cover the dough with a towel and let it rise at room temperature for 2 hours.
Step 7: Prepare Topping
In a bowl, mix 1 cup of all-purpose flour, 1 cup of powdered sugar, 1/2 cup of room temperature unsalted butter, and a splash of vanilla extract. Mix until combined.
Step 8: Color the Topping
Add cacao powder to one side of the topping mixture and red food coloring to the other side. Mix until combined.
Step 9: Shape the Dough
Once the dough has doubled in size, cut small pieces about the size of a small egg. Flatten each piece and place the topping over the dough.
Step 10: Design and Prepare for Baking
Use a knife to make designs on the topping. Place the shaped dough into a cupcake mold. Cover with a towel and let them rise for 45 minutes.
Step 11: Bake the Cupcakes
Preheat the oven to 350°F and bake the cupcakes for about 15 minutes. Keep an eye on them as baking times may vary.
