Preparation

Step 1: Prepare the Banh Mi Roll [02:08]

Cut the ends off the roll, then slice it in half. Toast it until it is nice and crusty on the outside and soft in the middle.

Step 2: Shape the meat [02:30]

Shape the thin slices of Wagyu into a rectangular patty that will fit inside the bun.

Step 3: Season the meat [02:38]

Season the patty with a mixture of salt and MSG, and freshly ground black pepper.

Step 4: Sear the patty [02:49]

Place the meat patty onto a hot griddle and press it down to ensure good contact. Let it brown without moving it.

Step 5: Cook the onions [03:22]

Add the diced yellow onion to the hot griddle next to the meat and let them soften and brown.

Step 6: Melt the cheese [05:19]

Once the meat has developed a nice crust, place the cheese slices on top of it.

Step 7: Chop and Fold [05:32]

Chop the meat, onions, cheese, and some of the pickled peppers together on the griddle until the cheese is melted and combined.

Step 8: Assembly [06:36]

Place the toasted banh mi roll on top of the cooked meat mixture, press it down with a spatula, and carefully scoop the mixture into the roll.
