How to Save a Recipe from an Instagram Reel

Updated · by MealClip

Short answer

Tapping the bookmark on a Reel saves the video, not the recipe. To keep the recipe itself, check the caption, the comments and the creator's link in bio, or copy the Reel link (Share, then Copy link) and paste it into MealClip, which turns the Reel into a written list of ingredients and steps.

Your first MealClip recipe is free after signing in with Google.

Find the recipe on Instagram

Instagram creators publish recipes in a few predictable places. Check them first.

  1. 1

    Read the full caption

Tap "more" under the Reel. Many cooks paste the complete recipe, ingredients and method, right into the caption.

  2. 2

Look for a "comment to get the recipe" prompt

Some creators ask you to comment a keyword and then send the recipe by direct message. If it does not show up in your inbox, check your message requests.

  3. 3

    Open the link in bio

Tap the creator's name to open their profile. Recipe developers often link to a blog or a newsletter with the printable version.

  4. 4

    Screenshot the on-screen ingredients

If the ingredients only appear as text over the video, pause and screenshot them before you lose track of which Reel they came from.

  5. 5

Save the Reel to a collection

Tap the bookmark icon and add the Reel to a collection such as "Dinners". It keeps the video handy, but if the creator deletes or archives it, the recipe goes with it.

Turn the Reel into a written recipe with MealClip

If the caption is empty or the recipe is only spoken, let MealClip read the Reel for you.

  1. 1

    Copy the Reel link

Tap the Share (paper plane) icon on the Reel and choose Copy link. The link should look like instagram.com/reel/...

  2. 2

    Paste it into MealClip

Open the Instagram Reel converter, paste the link and press Get Recipe.

  3. 3

    Sign in with Google

The first time, continue with Google. No password, and the Reel you pasted is processed right after you sign in.

  4. 4

Keep the recipe, not just the video

MealClip combines the caption, the narration and the on-screen text into an ingredient list and numbered steps. The recipe stays in My Recipes, with a link back to the Reel.

Tips for better results

Clear out your Saved folder one Reel at a time: open a Reel you actually want to cook, copy its link and convert it. A short list of real recipes beats hundreds of saved videos.

Only public Reels work. Reels from private accounts cannot be read, and photo-only posts have no video to read.

MealClip never makes up quantities. If the creator does not say, show or write an amount, the ingredient is listed without one.

Recipes are written in English, or in Spanish when the Reel is in Spanish.

Frequently asked questions

Does saving a Reel on Instagram save the recipe?

No. The bookmark saves the video to your Saved collections. If the creator deletes or archives the Reel, you lose the recipe too. Copy the recipe from the caption or convert the Reel into a written recipe to keep it.

Does MealClip read the Reel caption?

Yes. MealClip combines the caption, what is said in the Reel and the text shown on screen. When the caption has a written recipe, it is used as the most reliable source.

Is it free to save Instagram recipes with MealClip?

MealClip is free to try: sign in with Google and your first recipe is free, from any video up to 5 minutes long. After that, unlimited recipes from videos of any length are part of Premium, which costs $2.99 a month or $19.99 a year. If someone has already turned the same video into a recipe on MealClip, it opens without using up your free recipe.

Can I get recipes from private Instagram accounts?

No. MealClip can only read public Reels.
