How to Get a Recipe from a TikTok Video
Updated · by MealClip
Short answer
Most TikTok recipes live in one of three places: the caption (tap "more"), a pinned comment, or the creator's link in bio. If the recipe is only spoken or flashed on screen, copy the video link (Share, then Copy link) and paste it into MealClip, which watches the video and writes out the ingredients and steps for you.
Your first MealClip recipe is free after a one-click Google sign-in.
Find the recipe on TikTok itself
Before using any tool, check the places where creators usually publish the written recipe. It takes a minute and costs nothing.
- 1
Expand the caption
Tap the caption or "more" under the creator's name. Short recipes often fit in full, with the ingredients as a list.
- 2
Check the pinned comment and the creator's replies
Open the comments. Creators often pin the ingredient list at the top or answer "recipe?" questions with the quantities.
- 3
Open the link in bio
Tap the creator's profile picture. Many food creators link a blog, a link page or a cookbook where the full written recipe lives.
- 4
Pause on the on-screen text
A lot of TikTok recipes show each ingredient as a text overlay for a second or two. Tap to pause and screenshot each one, and turn on captions if the video has them to catch spoken amounts.
- 5
Bookmark it so you can find it again
Tap the bookmark icon to add the video to your Favorites. Keep in mind this saves the video, not the recipe: if the creator deletes it or makes it private, it is gone.
Turn the TikTok into a written recipe with MealClip
When the recipe only exists inside the video, MealClip does the pausing and note-taking for you.
- 1
Copy the TikTok link
On the video, tap Share, then Copy link. Full links (tiktok.com/@creator/video/...) and short share links (vm.tiktok.com/...) both work.
- 2
Paste it into MealClip
Open the TikTok recipe converter, paste the link in the box and press Get Recipe.

Sign in with Google
The first time, MealClip asks you to continue with Google. There is no password to create, and your recipe carries on as soon as you are in.
- 4
Cook from the recipe
MealClip reads the narration, the on-screen text and the caption together and returns an ingredient list and numbered steps. The recipe stays in My Recipes and links back to the original TikTok.

Use a video, not a photo post. MealClip reads TikTok videos; photo carousels (slideshows) are not supported.
Quantities come from the creator. If a video never says or shows how much of an ingredient to use, MealClip lists the ingredient without making up an amount, so check the caption or comments for anything missing.
The video has to be public. You do not need a TikTok account, only the link, but MealClip cannot read private videos.
Recipes are written in English, or in Spanish when the video is in Spanish.
Frequently asked questions
Can I get the recipe from a TikTok if the creator never wrote it down?
Yes. Pause on the on-screen text and listen for the amounts, or paste the link into MealClip, which watches the video (what is said, what is shown on screen and the caption) and writes the recipe out for you.
Is MealClip free for TikTok recipes?
MealClip is free to try: sign in with Google and your first recipe is free, from any video up to 5 minutes long. After that, unlimited recipes from videos of any length are part of Premium, which costs $2.99 a month or $19.99 a year. If someone has already turned the same video into a recipe on MealClip, it opens without using up your free recipe.
Do I need a TikTok account?
No. You only need the link to a public TikTok video. MealClip itself needs a free account, which you create with one click through Google.
What happens if the TikTok gets deleted later?
Bookmarking a TikTok only saves the video, so a deleted video takes the recipe with it. A recipe you have already converted on MealClip stays in My Recipes even if the original video disappears.
