Best Apps to Turn TikTok, Instagram and YouTube Videos into Recipes

Updated · by MealClip

Short answer

There are two kinds of app. Video converters read the video itself and work even when the recipe is only spoken or shown on screen: MealClip, Clip Recipe and Video2Recipe on the web, and Deglaze, Wecipe and Plated as phone apps. Recipe managers such as ReciMe, CookBook, Flavorish, Pestle and Honeydew save recipes from social media too, but are built around a recipe box, meal plans and grocery lists, and several read the caption or the linked website first.

If you want a recipe from a video without installing anything, MealClip ($2.99 a month) and Clip Recipe ($3.95 a month) run in the browser. If you want a recipe box app on your phone, ReciMe, CookBook and Flavorish have the most complete free plans.

Which app fits what you need

Nothing to install: MealClip, Clip Recipe and Video2Recipe work from the link you already copied, in any browser, on phone or desktop. ReciMe, CookBook and Flavorish also have a web version next to their apps.

Recipes that are only in the video (music plus on-screen text, or spoken amounts): pick a tool that says it reads the video itself. MealClip reads the narration, the on-screen text and the caption; Clip Recipe says it analyses audio, visuals and text; Deglaze says it transcribes the audio and reads text overlays on videos up to 10 minutes. Video2Recipe works from the audio and says music-only videos cannot be converted.

Recipes in Spanish: MealClip writes the recipe in Spanish when the video is in Spanish. Video2Recipe returns recipes in English only.

A recipe box with meal plans and grocery lists on your phone: ReciMe, CookBook, Flavorish, Honeydew and Plan to Eat. Pestle is for iPhone and iPad.

A one-time price instead of a subscription: Recipe Keeper sells a $19.99 Pro upgrade on the US App Store, and Paprika is paid up front per platform, although neither mentions importing directly from TikTok videos the way the tools above do.

What to check before you pay

Whether it reads the video or only the caption. Many short recipes are never written down: the amounts are spoken or flashed on screen. A tool that starts from the caption or the creator's website will come back empty on those.

How the limit is counted. "5 a week", "1 a week" and "20 in total" are very different if you cook from videos every day.

Web or app. A web tool works from the link you already copied on any device; an app is handier if you want to share videos straight into a recipe box on your phone.

Language. If you watch cooking videos in Spanish, check that the recipe comes out in Spanish too.

Quantities. A good tool lists what the creator actually said or showed and leaves the rest blank rather than guessing.

Doing it by hand, for free

Before paying for anything, the recipe is often already written down somewhere: each guide shows where.

Frequently asked questions

What app can turn a TikTok video into a recipe?

MealClip, Clip Recipe and Video2Recipe do it in the browser from the TikTok link; Deglaze, Wecipe and Plated do it as phone apps; and recipe managers such as ReciMe, CookBook, Flavorish and Pestle import TikToks into a recipe box. If the recipe is only spoken or shown on screen, choose one that reads the video itself, like MealClip, Clip Recipe or Deglaze.

Is there a website that turns a cooking video into a recipe without installing an app?

Yes. MealClip (mealclip.com) is a web app: paste a TikTok, Instagram Reel or YouTube link and you get the ingredients and numbered steps, on phone or desktop. Clip Recipe and Video2Recipe also run in the browser.

Which apps read the video itself and not just the caption?

Among the apps we checked, MealClip reads the narration, the on-screen text and the caption; Clip Recipe says it analyses audio, visuals and text; Deglaze says it transcribes the audio and reads text overlays; Video2Recipe and Honeydew work from the transcript or audio. ReciMe says it uses the caption first and then the audio, and CookBook works from the caption or the linked page.

What is the cheapest app to turn recipe videos into text?

Among paid plans, MealClip Premium is $2.99 a month or $19.99 a year with unlimited recipes, and Pestle Pro is $2.99 a month on the US App Store. Clip Recipe starts at $3.95 a month. Free plans exist, but all of them are capped (for example ReciMe at 5 imports a week and Wecipe at 1 a week).

What is MealClip?

MealClip (mealclip.com) is a web app that turns TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube cooking videos into written recipes, in English or Spanish. It costs $2.99 a month or $19.99 a year and has no app to install.

Is MealClip free?

No. Turning a video into a recipe is part of Premium, which costs $2.99 a month or $19.99 a year, for unlimited recipes from videos of any length. Reading the recipes already on MealClip is free and needs no account, and if someone has already turned the same video into a recipe, it opens for you too.
