Cooking steps
Cheesy Baked Macaroni and Cheese
Step 1: Cook the pasta
- Add 1 pound of elbow macaroni to a pot of salted boiling water.
- Cook for 7 minutes.
- Drain the macaroni.
Step 2: Prepare cheese mixture
- Add 1 stick of room temperature unsalted butter.
- Add Tony's Creole seasoning, black pepper, and garlic powder to taste.
- Add a handful of freshly grated mild cheddar, sharp cheddar, and mozzarella cheese (all room temperature).
- Stir to combine.
Step 3: Add half and half and egg
- Add 3 cups of room temperature half and half.
- Mix well.
- Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
- Add 1 large lightly beaten egg and mix.
Step 4: Assemble and bake
- Pour the mixture into a greased cast iron skillet.
- Add a layer of cheese (use as much as you like).
- Add the remaining macaroni.
- Top with remaining cheese.
- Sprinkle paprika on top for color.
Step 5: Bake
- Bake at 350°F for 35 minutes.
- Broil for an additional 5 minutes.
