Levain Chocolate Walnut Cookie Recipe

Step 1: Preheat and Prepare

Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2: Mix Dry Ingredients

In a medium bowl, whisk together 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour, 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder, 1 teaspoon baking soda, and 1 teaspoon cornstarch. Set aside.

Step 3: Cream Butter and Sugars

In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to cream together 3/4 cup dark brown sugar, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, and 1 cup unsalted butter until light and fluffy.

Step 4: Add Eggs and Vanilla

Beat in 2 cold eggs one at a time, followed by 2 teaspoons vanilla extract. Continue mixing for 3-4 minutes until the batter turns pale and the sugar is well incorporated.

Step 5: Combine Dry and Wet Ingredients

Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until just combined, being careful not to overmix.

Step 6: Add Chocolate Chips and Walnuts

Stir in 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips and 1 1/2 cups chopped roasted walnuts.

Step 7: Shape Cookies

Scoop 2 tablespoon-sized balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 4 inches of space between each cookie. Top each with more chocolate chips and walnuts.

Step 8: Bake

Bake for 13-16 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden brown.

Step 9: Cool

Remove from the oven and let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
