Cooking steps

Salisbury Steak

Step 1: Prepare the patty mixture [00:10]

In a large bowl, mix 1 lb lean ground beef, 1 egg, mustard, a dash of Worcestershire sauce, 1/4 to 1/2 cup breadcrumbs, and 1 package of onion soup mix. Combine the ingredients thoroughly.

Step 2: Form the patties [01:03]

Divide the meat mixture into 4 to 5 portions. Roll each portion into a ball, place it on a paper plate, and press down with your hand to form a patty. Repeat this process until all patties are formed.

Step 3: Cook the patties [01:17]

Add a little oil to a large, wide pan over medium-high heat. Place the patties in the pan and sear them for about 3-4 minutes on each side to add color. They don't need to be fully cooked through yet. Once browned, remove them from the pan and set aside.

Step 4: Make the gravy [01:37]

Reduce the pan heat to medium-low. Add 1/4 stick of butter to the pan. Once melted, stir in 2 tablespoons of flour to create a roux. Let it cook for about 3 minutes. Gradually pour in 1 can of beef broth, stirring continuously until smooth. Add a second package of onion soup mix, another dash of Worcestershire sauce, and pepper to taste. Let the mixture simmer.

Step 5: Combine and finish cooking [02:30]

Add the patties back into the pan with the gravy. Spoon the gravy over the patties to ensure they are fully coated. Let them simmer on low heat for about 10 minutes until the patties are cooked through. Serve once finished.
